Applied International Environmental Management

Goal:

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the specific topic of Environmental Management and its relevant literature.

Content:

In this course two different aspects of Environmental Management are discussed.

The first part of the course is concerned with voluntary actions taken by firms in order to protect the environment, i.e. acts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The second part treats regulatory frameworks and mandatory environmental standards focussing on Emission Trading Systems (ETS).

Method:

After a short introduction to the subject, students will prepare presentations on a given scientific paper in groups of two and present a summary of its contents in the class. Both students in a group should have read and understood the entire paper that they are presenting.

At the end of the semester students should hand in a written report summarizing the main aspects of the paper which they presented during the semester and give their opinion on the work.

Grading:

The students will be graded throughout the semester.

Mandatory requirements for a positive grade:

- attendance of a minimum of 80% of all classes;

- active participation in class;

- presentation of a paper (positive grade);

- written report of that paper (positive grade).
